Are there still people who don't understand why we keep dogs?

Sometimes I wonder, dogs can only accompany us for about ten years. Even when they make mistakes, we shouldn’t scold them—they can’ speak, after all. From the moment they were born, they were taken away from their mothers, and we are the only family they have in this world. Why do we raise dogs? Many people don’t understand, but only dog owners truly know: dogs are the only beings in this world whose love and loyalty can be bought with money. No one else will revolve around you every day; no one else will wait at home for you 365 days a year—only a dog can do that. And the remarkable thing is, they ask for nothing in return. All they need is a meal, and they will stay with you until their last breath. Their very lives belong to you.
People who don’t raise dogs may not understand why so many treat their dogs like their own children. In material terms, it seems like we are the ones taking care of them, but emotionally, they are the ones healing us. You might feel like they are just after food, attention, or love, but in reality, they give so much more than we could ever repay. A dog’s life is only about ten short years, but in that time, they give their entire life to us. Don’t you think we owe it to them to treat them a little better?
